I had this misconception also when I installed my home network. Our cable
modem installer showed me that the network is still accessible with the
Windows Logon selected in Networks. With Windows logon and a blank
password, you won't be bothered any more. You will have to specify a user
name, leave the password blank , and press "OK" (not Cancel). If you have
already set a password for the user name, then you will need to go to the
Password applet in Control Panel and changing Windows Logon password to blank.
