Question:

I've got 64 Megs of RAM on my system and it rarely hits the Hard Drive,
other than when initially loading programs to RAM, or clearing the
c:\windows\temp directory after an installation.

Why would I possibly need a 128 MB Swap File?

Rick Mann

I agree. I have a 266PentiumII with 64 MB of RAM and a 6.5 GB Hard drive
which is only 20% filled. I felt Win95 was accessing the HD too often. I
also couldn't imagine allocating 128 or more MB for a swapfile. As an
experiment, I tried turning off the swapfile. I had a feeling that 64MB
was enough for most tasks. I was right. I could run Excel, Word, and
Outlook all at the same time without a crash. Now I'm not recommending
turning off virtual memory for most people, as Microsoft writes that this
could cause you to crash and not be able to restart. It did prove, though,
that with enough physical RAM installed, the swapfile certainly doesn't
have to be huge.
