Jerry;
Hook the drive up as a slave on a working system
and see if you can recover the files.
If this is win9x you could try booting from a floppy
and run scanreg /restore at a Dos prompt.
it will give you a list of registry backups to try.

And there is always the old freezer trick.
I'ts worked for me several times when the drive has mechanical problems.
just pop the harddrive in the freezer in an antistatic bag
for a few hours, sometimes it will boot and allow you to
copy the data to another drive.

I have had very limited success trying to recover data
with recovery software.
There are companies that recover data, but the cost is very high.

hi there listers,
i have a friend that his hard drive went out and he needs the info off it.
is there a porg.out there to recover this info. the drive gets to the screen
were it want u to pick ether safe mode or com.prompt.mode. but it frezes
there can i recovery this info or not ??any help would be great thanks in
