I would start by making sure all of your drivers are up to date, particularly the graphics card. Which programs are giving the error? Anything you can re-install?

I am using a tradional desktop with win 98. I sometimes get a message "this computer has performed an illegal operation and will shut down". I hit the enter key and everything turns to normal. I was wondering if this was the computer's way of telling me that the video card may be going south. Or is it an indication of something else wrong? Tanx.
