You'll undoubtedly get several responses telling you how to shut off the
Messenger service (which it's extremely unlikely that you'll ever need) in
order to stop these pop-ups from being displayed.
However, the fact that spammers can reach your system with Messenger pop-
ups indicates that your machine is wide open to a variety of much more
serious attacks. So instead of covering up the symptom, I urge you to take
stronger defensive steps which will, incicdentally, also protect you from
these pop-ups.
Probably the simplest and easiest effective thing you can do is install a
software firewall; Zone Alarm has a free version which is a very good place
to start. It will block a variety of traffic that shouldn't be passing
between your machine and the Internet, including these pop-ups.
