Hi Marilyn,

Outlook Express (6) is tightly integrated with Internet Explorer 6
(or Internet Explorer 7 if upgraded to that)

Most problems in OE 6 stem from not compacting mail, too many emails in
Inbox, Sent or Deleted boxes.
In addition ,because of the integration with IE ,it's also dependent on the
state of IE.
Many settings in IE also affect OE.

Follow the first parts of the suggestions in this link
* Repair or Reinstall Outlook Express
http://www.ctimls.com/Support/KB/How%20To/Repair_Outlook_Express.htm
Like deleting IE temp internet files etc. Also advice as to compacting.

Multiple sending often occurs because the person doesn't see anything
happening and since
there may be a delay because of the compacting issue, the Send command may
receive multiple clicks.
The other reason may be that the sending size is larger than the setting at
which messages are "broken apart".
This setting is a bit more involved but a simple description is here:
"Stopping Outlook Express 6 for Windows XP from Sending Large Messages as
Several Smaller Messages"
http://answers.vt.edu/kb/entry/834/

If you need to go further, the following links will be of help:

You can also uninstall IE6 and Outlook Express this way
Control panel > Add/Remove > Add/Remove Windows Components button.
In the list select Outlook Express and follow the wizard.

As you may have noticed ,I have purposely avoided to suggest another email
client,
such as Windows Live Mail or Thunderbird since that's not what you asked
for.
Whether or not you friend wants to change to another program is another
story and up to him.
For simple -and even not so simple email, OE does the job just fine.
Security concerns regarding OE 6 and IE6 ,or IE7 are present to some extent
,but can be alleviated
by sandboxing the whole works, provided the amount of email in OE is kept at
low levels.
Safe email handling is another part in the equation.

HTH,
Peter.

Subject: [PCSOFT] Can't Delete Messages in Outlook Express

I have a friend who is having problems deleting and sending messages in
Outlook Express. He is running Windows XP. His deleting of message
doesn't work and his sending of messages often gets stuck in the
outbox. When it does send, it often sends multiples. He has a Yahoo
account that works fine in all respects.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Marilyn
