Just looking at the error message, it sounds like some remote program such
as Reachout or PCAnywhere might be the culprit. Does this system have such
software installed, or has it had such software installed in the past? This
might be the place to look. In addition, you might look entrys in
System.ini for display drivers and use a semi-colon at the begining of the
line for suspicious entries that appear to be loading display drivers that
you are not sure of, especially if you can find one that specifies a
chaining statement of some sort.
I know that in earlier versions of Reachout, 640X480 was the only windows
display mode that was supported.
