This is similar to the "folder view problem" in Win95. To quote a recent
article from Windows Magazine, with Win98 "one of the biggest Win95
annoyances has been put to rest. You can finally set all folders to come
up in the same default view...".

I have this problem in Win NT Workstation 4. I can not get the "List"
folder view to stick globally. (Individual folders will save their settings,
but I would have to open every folder on the hard drive and manually set
the folder view to get what I want. I have never had this problem with
Win95A. Every folder opens just the way I want it to. (I use System
Commander to boot multiple operating systems on different hard drives.)

I have posted numerous messages to Usenet groups and mailing lists and
almost no one bothers to answer. The world is clearly divided into those
who have this problem and those who do not. Those who do not (have the
problem) think it is trivial and so they don't bother to help.

There must be a setting in the registry which forces a View Folder Option
to stick globally (i.e., every folder in the system). I do not want to
mess up my Win95A, so I won't experiment there. I will try Regmon.exe to
see what changes in the Win NT registry (or the Win98 registry) when you
change View Folder Options from "List" to "Details". (Regmon tracks
registry changes in real time. Every time you do something to your system
that changes the registry, the specific registry key and it's new value
appear in the regmon window. The program is available from
<http://www.ntinternals.com/regmon.htm> for Win95 and from
<http://www.ntinternals.com/ntregmon.htm> for Win NT.)

If anyone knows anything about these problems, please post a message!
Oh, by the way, my Win98 beta 1650 still has the folder view problem.
The button that is supposed to "make all folders look like the open
folder" has no effect.

Bill
