The "/a" switch causes Winword to bypass using both the registry setting
and loading the Normal.dot template for WInword. In effect, if Word for WIndows
runs fine using this switch you have either a corrupted registry for Word or
a corrupted Normal.dot file. Reloading MS Word will not solve this problem.
You have two options:
1) Delete your registry and reload Windows, a great deal of work rebuilding
all your settings... or...
2) Go to Microsoft's knowledge base and follow the instructions on curing
the problem: Article number => Q236319 (also a bit of work)
