Thank you for all your feedback.  The mp3 format isn't a universal format for
most cd players.  Although I did record the music to mp3 format, Nero Express
actually answered the above question for me.  It automatically converted the
mp3 format to a format suitable for play in common cd players.  I now have  an
old Platters album converted to mp3 and then converted to whatever when Nero
Express burned the cd.  I tested the cd in several non-mp3 players and it
sounds great.  I was amazed at how easy it was to backup my valuable vinyl.
