Ian,
Did you export them first? I have used import and export for years to back
up and restore three different versions of Outlook  with no ill effects. Use
the "Export PST file".

I'm no expert at this (as will be obvious:--)) but I tried the 'Import'
thing.  That doesn't work, there's no option to import pst files that I
could see.
