Bill,

Unless they are ancient DOS based or Windows 3.x programs, then simply
copying them will not work.  The programs must be installed on the new
system so that Windows 9x can set up the correct entries in the system
registry files.

Many times folks will try to move the hard disk from the old PC to the new
PC, but this will only work if the old disk is made the C drive in the new
PC -- which in most cases would mean a step backward in terms of
performance.
