eddie,
the modem should have a floppy/cd with it with the driver (if not talk to
the vendor), w95 does not have drivers for ALL hardware, particularly newer
stuff.
i had a HSP modem (for example) which came with its own driver.
once you find the disk w/ the driver on it, go to the 'unknown' device shown
which you believe is the modem card. tell it you want to update the driver.
there will be a tab where you tell it you have you OWN disk. insert it,
follow the directions, should work.
on the matter of the pci, same stuff. the motherboard should come w/ it.
on my motherboard however when i loaded it, things got flakey. i had to rip
out osr2 and reinstall cuz everytime i tried to install over the old one it
found the dad blamed pci bus software and installed it again.
i 'believe' the pci bridge software is only for bus-mastering and there is
some debate on whether that really improves hard drive performance (see
tom's hardware page). so i decided to leave it out and go with the unknown
device. no problems.
