Siva,

I guess I'll add my $.02 cents. This is a loaded
question. A program like Netscape Navigator or
Internet Explorer always uses the "last place" you
downloaded a file and the new place to place a file.

A program like Wordperfect, Word Pro, or Word has its
"preferred" place to save file. You can change this
preferred place by modifying the user preferences in
the respective program.

Some program don't allow you to save files to a place
you specify.

I guess the long and short of it is that there is no
way to universally tell all program to save their data
in a "default" folder.
