Hello Dean

I do quite a lot of this work myself. I have had excellent results with the
following method. However, if anyone else can improve on it I'll be glad to
hear of it myself.

1. Hardware: First thing you need is a CD writer. I have had the HP4020i for
a few years and it has been superb. You will find many choices out there but
I like the HP stuff myself. To link your PC & stereo/Hifi. This is easily
achieved by connecting your Hifi 'Phones' socket to the 'line in' socket on
your sound card. Some HiFi's will have a 'line out' socket that can be used.

2. Software: The best and cheapest recording and editing soft ware I've
found is called 'Cool Edit'. You can get this from http://www.download.com .
It will come as a shareware and when it is in this mode you can only use 2
functions each time you launch the programme. To register will cost you
about $40 and it is well worth it. The software I use to make the CD's is
called 'CD Creator Deluxe'. This is quite expensive but I have found nothing
better.

3. Cleaning up old records. CD Creator will remove 'pops & hisses' for you
and the interface is very easy to use. However to really restore a record
(this can take some time) I use Cool Edit. You'll have quite a steep
learning curve with Cool Edit but when sussed it is superb.

That is the basic outline for converting records to CD. When you get
yourself a writer etc and you come across any other problems please contact
me.

Yours....Mick
