If you try to run the programs from inside a DOS window,
you will get this error message. You must reboot to DOS
to access those programs --OR-- run them directly from
Windows (ie START -- RUN -- a:\chkdsk or whatever)
but not from inside a DOS window.

Just a quick side note here.....

The ERD will not "rescue" your computer if there are
problems. The Emergency Rescue Disk is nothing
more than a DOS boot disk with a couple of utilities
on it.

Do not rely on this disk to do any "magic" repairs
to your PC if it fails.

In fact, beginning with Windows ME, MS is now
(more accurately) calling it an Emergency BOOT Disk
instead of a rescue disk.
