Mark. . . after you save a copy, open the copy, not the original. . .
Then click the tiny triangle at the top right of the "Layers Palette". In
the dropdown box, select "flatten image". . . then discard any paths and
alpha channels you may have created while editing the image.
Next goto file/save as. . . and now the dropdown box will have many more
choices.
