Subject: RAM & Briefcase

I have a P166-Windows95-4.00.950B-32mgRAM-IE4.04.72.2106.8. I'm
sure this is a stupid question, but I can't determine where 24mg of
RAM is being used. When I use Ctrl-Alt-Del to shut down everything
but Explorer & Systray I only free up prox 8mg of RAM per my
DigiDay clock. I don't think the clock uses 24mg but what is
utilizing it that wouldn't show up as running when you hit
Ctrl-Alt-Del?
---------------

Hi.

I sympathize with you as well, I have tried the same thing you did. I have
64 MB of RAM and my system says that 61 MB are used!!! Just what the heck is
going on, eh? I have purged programs off my taskbar, ctrl-alt-del and
physically clicked on each program to shut them down, even used a commercial
product like WinStone's WinCheckit to keep refreshing my memory, but I
cannot seem to get it down.

One thing I would try, (which I have not on my own system, because the
wiring is a mess inside) is to remove one of the RAM pieces (i.e. go back
down to 16 Meg) and see how much memory is utilized. (Make sure you remove
the correct one!) I have heard in theory that the average Windows system
does not utilize more than 32 Megs of RAM (so in theory I should be better
off).

Don't forget to also take advantage of the System Monitor Accessory in Win
95 to check your memory limit, threads, kernal usage etc....This accessory
is often a good indicator of what is happening in your system while you are
in Win 95 and using applications.

Let me know how this goes...
