Does anyone out there know what would make the C/Windows System 32 folder
come up when I boot up my computer and what the solution would be to fix it.

---------end original---------
If I understand your post, the computer displays a black screen with,
perhaps, the text "The following file
C:\Windows\System32\SYSTEM is missing or corrupt. Windows cannot start." or
something along those
lines. If this is the case, try tapping the F8 key as the computer boots to
get the startup menu. Highlight the choice
Safe mode. If the "damage" is not too severe, the computer should boot into
safe mode. If so, click on Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools,
System Restore. Restore the computer to an earlier (when it was still
working) restore point. If this process is successful, you should then be
able to start the computer normally. If this doesn't work, and you have your
XP installation disk, boot from it and allow it to begin installing Windows.
Read the screens carefully. There is a point where you are offered a choice
of a new installation. Do NOT choose this; choose the other option (I'm
working strictly from memory of 2 occasions where I performed this
operation.). You will be presented with the option to repair a current
installation of Windows, and this is what you want to do.
With any luck, running the system restore while in safe mode may get you up
and running. It worked for one of my clients.
