Assuming you use Win 98:
You can invoke the the "Open with" dialogue box by holding the shift key
while right-clicking the file in question. In order to know what program to
select, we'd have to know the file extension (Three or four letters to the
right of the period.) If the extension is not visible, right click the file
and select "Properties."
The file extension tells you what kind of file you're opening, and some are
very obscure.
Well known ones include .jpg , .gif and .bmp for graphics files and .doc,
.txt for text files. There are many more. Some will open in multiple
applications, some will only open in a single application.
There is a comprehensive list of extensions at:
http://extsearch.com/
If you still have trouble, send us the file name and someone will know the
answer.

When trying to open a file, I got that infamous "open with" list that I
never know how to chose from. Well, this time I took a guess, and of course
it was the wrong guess. Now I cannot make another choice because it says
"this is not a valid addressbook file", which is what I inadvertently chose.
What do I do now, and how does one EVER know what to choose when shown that
"open with" list?
