Linda,
As I recall Win98 really doesn't "need" to have any such tweak done, as
compared to Win95. I run Win98SE and consistently have speeds around 50k.
I don't use any third-party tweak program or registry edits. You can,
however, go to Winmag.com (http://www.winmag.com/) and run through their
"WinTune" pc test program. This should be a good starting point for you.
They'll offer tips, too. You may find this ZDNet series of articles helpful
(http://www.zdnet.com/zdhelp/stories/main/0,5594,2591167-1,00.html).
Hth.
Brian
P.S. I'd skip using MTU for the time being.

I have a terrible internet connection. I downloaded MTUSpeed from the PC
Soft downloads and I'm not sure what to do with it. Do I just use the .exe
file and tell it to Optimize??? I'm afraid it will change something, and
then not work at all and I won't know how to change it back.
I'm running Win 98 and have a new Zoom modem that is about 4 months old. In
the mornings I only connect between 19,200 and 22,000 in the afternoons I
can sometimes hit 49,333 but then the little computer screens go blank and
my computer just sits here not doing anything. Sometimes it helps if I open
another browser window, that sort of wakes up the connection. I want to
download a .pdf file that is 11MB and it's just impossible the way it is
now. Will MTU help???
Thanks for any help.
