Bill,
if you use a software firewall, you normally allow or deny each program that
wants to access the internet. When your application, e.g. a music player,
tries to access internet, you just say no (+remember), and the application
will never be allowed.

I could recommend the free ZoneAlarm and WinAmp.

Good luck!

Greetings all;

    I am looking for a simple mp3 playing piece of software for Win 98SE
that will not try to connect to the internet when used. I have tried several
different programs and have been unsuccessful in stopping them from
attempting to connect no matter how I change their configuration settings.
(Rather annoying on my dial-up account.) Thanks for your input.

Bill
