  In Win95a, (hope you have that) do this:
Hit Start, Settings, Control Panel,
Double click on Modems.
Select your modem (if more than one),
Hit Properties, Connection, Advanced.
Hit Question mark and Extra settings.
That will tell you about what you are about to do.
Enter the setting you think is correct in extra settings box,
and Hit OK.
Try it, and see if it is any better.  (Good Luck)
