hi miriam,if you are referring to the taskbar(which has the computer clock and for
which david has sought clarification in his post)then i would sujjest you try the following

click start,click run,type "msconfig"(without the quotes)and you will get the system configuration window with menus like "system.ini"  "autoexe.bat" "win.ini"
etc.click on the start up button.this will show all the programs loaded at start up and will have a check mark.uncheck those for which you dont want the icons in the task bar.but be careful what you uncheck because not all have icons and some will be required by the system to function properly. hope this will resolve your problem and have a good day--venkat viswanathan
