Sounds like you are running one of the First Aid programs. Mine does the
same thing and I'm running First Aid 98. I think that is the part of the
program that is backing up your registry and some other stuff every time
you shut down. And most of the time it seems to take a while so much that
the RTFIXMON dialog box comes up. If you wait a few seconds longer and do
nothing your computer will still shut down normally.
