One method I used was to tie the office location/jack id to the ip
address. We had access to 254 addresses. Physically, we had a two
story building. If the office location was on the first floor, a
location of "011, would have the IP address "10.10.10.111". On the
second floor, any location from "200" to "254" would have the same
corresponding IP addr. If the second floor, had an address above 254,
for example "260", then the IP Address would be "10.10.10.060".
The gist is to find a physical identifier to tie to the addressing
scheme. If you have a physical map of all your locations you can
assign your own location identifiers. Just make sure to keep an extra
copy of the map. Another point to keep in mind is that if the pc
moves, the address must change accordingly with the new location.
Hope this helps.
