Are you sure the MSDOS.SYS file is actually getting copied correctly and
replacing the original version of the file? The file is usually marked
read-only, isn't it? Without removing that attribute (and the hidden and
system attributes also, if applicable) simply copying the file from a
floppy to replace the one on the hard drive probably wouldn't work, right?
Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, it's just the first thing that came to
mind and you hadn't mentioned ruling this out in your message....
