Hi Carol,
I had the exact same problem with my 'Acer' scanner. My
"work-around" was to do my scanning "immediately" after opening
Windows 95, with nothing else running. If I dared to open up ANY
OTHER app before scanning, I'd get the same error message you're
getting.
Several months later, though, I had the occasion to reformat my
hard drive and 're-install' Windows95 (a clean install). Then
after reinstalling the scanner software I no longer had the
problem AND the scanning operations were much faster.
