When you run scandisk you should make sure that you have closed all other
programs that run in the background. For example, if you are using an
Antivirus program such as Norton, you would right click on it's icon in your
taskbar and disable auto-protect because this might not allow scandisk to
write to the disk. You can eliminate everything that is running by
ctrl-alt-delete and when the window pops up just do end task on each program
in the list.You can do this for Defrag also.
