Russ,

Just tried a reinstall with the laptop plugged into a USB port. Tried
setting it up both for a wireless connection to the network and directly
connected to the USB port. Neither way worked, the only thing that seems to
work is when I have the laptop (XP) is wired directly to the router. Then it
sees the printer and will print documents. That must mean the printer
wireless connection is seeing the router. Both desktops (one W7 one XP)
are also hard wired to the router and have no problem with the printer. The
wireless connection to the router from the laptop gives internet access so
that part is OK. The printer only sees the router through the wireless
connection so that's OK. The thing that is failing is the laptop wireless
to router to printer connection. Now it's possible a wireless connection
from the desktops to the router would also fail but I don't have a wireless
card in either of them. I have a spare desktop that has a wireless card so
I'll try that next for curiosity.

Bob
