I've taken the advice posted previously and extracted both suspect files from the CD, overwrote the originals and received the message that both are completed successfully.

Unfortunately, when I run either of them, they appear on the screen for a flash and then vanish.

The reason I suspected a virus is that I did a search for that particular characteristic and the results posted indicated a virus.  Also, these programs run fine in safe mode.

Next guess?  :-)
