There are fixes available to repair Windows Update.
I have a friend with a "white box" from a company out of business,
and his Windows Update NEVER worked.
I was never able to fix it. (In all fairness to myself, I never tried more
than 30-60 minutes, and gave up since it did not respond to the
standard fixes, AND he has two kids and lots of trash in/on the computer.
Its legal, and everything else works, so nobody cared...
I had to "force" these people off of Netscape 3 for email when it got too
old... <grin>
