The error "The CD-Writer cannot perform the function as it is currently
being used by Adaptec DirectCD" or "This application is unable to use
your CD-Writer as it is currently being used by Adaptec DirectCD Kernel"
will occur when trying to use a disc that has been formatted with
DirectCD.
When making a CD with Easy CD Creator or CD Copier, it is unnecessary to
format the disc first. Formatting is only required if you wish to use
the DirectCD software. DirectCD allows logical drive access, which
means, data can be written directly to the HP CD-Writer drive using the
drive letter.
Eject the DirectCD formatted disc and insert a blank, unformatted
CD-R/CD-RW or a disc that has been previously written to with Easy CD
Creator.
It is important to me that I resolve your issue. If you need further

Can anyone help!
When I purchased my computer it came with a great little program Roxio Easy
CD Creator which is a great help for novices like me to burn and copy info
to CD's.
There is a part in the program that can enable you to 'make a data CD'
which you can archive your computer files to CD. When you actually choose
the files to add and archive to CD, then press 'record' each time it comes
up with a box and says....
Reservation conflict! This drive is in use by another application "Roxio
Direct Cd Kernel" cannot use it until the application has completed.
It always seems to be in use by this 'application' and I cannot use this
part of the program which is frustrating as it is the part I want most..Can
you help! I have Windows XP home edition operating system.
