I use Windows Commander (shareware) that has an internal unzip
function. With it I can point to a self-extracting installation (exe) file
and press ctrl-Page Down and it expands to display the files inside. It
even has an internal viewer so you can look at the contents of the "readme"
file without unzipping or extracting. You can download an evaluation copy

BTW, I've used it instead of Windows Explorer since Windows 95 came out. A
complete file handler.
