I just spent the better part of 3 days downloading and testing programs to to do almost exactly
what you are looking for, and the best program I found was "Digital Photo Slide Show". It
includes autorun, slide show, dozens of different fades and provision to play your own music
among other things.
It is a shareware program (about $20) with a 60 day free trial period. A google search will find it's
home page.
