How can I determine what is causing a dialog box to appear at system startup saying "svchost cannot be found". Have tried unchecking virtuall all startup items using System Configuration, no success. I have not tried stopping any services. The machine is running WinXP Home. All unused programs have been removed using "Add-Remove Programs". Can't find a Winini file to amend.
I suspect this is the remains of a virus or trojan since the design of the error dialog box is of an old style, like you may see in Win95 or even 3.1.
I know svchost is a necessary "machine" for many programs so I won't delete any instances of it appearing in any program files, unless of course the program no longer exists. I just want to stop the startup routine from looking for it. Any help would be appreciated.
