  There shouldn't *necessarily* be any loss of sound quality.  A MIDI file
doesn't store the actual musical waveforms, but information about the
selection of instruments and the timing of notes.  MIDI playback involves
sequencing that information through a synthesizer to recreate the waveforms.
  The synthesizer used to generate the WAV files may be better or worse than
the one you normally use for MIDI playback -- or, more likely, it's the very
same one, built into your sound card.
