Thank you for the responses, but my problem is not HOW to set the option for the html editor. The problem is that after I do set the option, it is changed in the registry by something else. It seems that Office 2010 may be the culprit in resetting the default editor to be MSOHTMED.EXE which is part of the Office package. The Office is the 64-bit version of 2010, and the SharePoint Designer is a 32-bit version of 2007. This may be the problem since Office 2010 does not "like" having earlier versions around! The question is how to keep the default editor setting from being changed. Incidentally, the setting under IE options stays set to SharePoint Designer, but the .htm registry setting keeps getting reset to be MS Word, or rather MSOHTMED which then calls Word.
