I run 4 computer labs in 3 buildings with 2,400 students and am in a
similar situation.
1. My students log onto a Windows NT network to access the Windows 95
machines.
2. I use poledit.exe to DISABLE user profile caching.
3. Everytime someone logs onto one of the public access machines, the NT
logon script copies the "Standard" Desktop & Start Menus to the local
machines.
4. I have exported the segment of the registry that contains the default
software settings and I import that back into the registry at each log-on.
Every machine looks exactly the same everytime someone goes to use it.
In an environment with a 95 peer-to-peer network, I would create a hidden
share on the instructors machine with the defaults and a dos bat file with
the appropriate xcopy's and place the bat file into each machines StartUp
folder. However with caching the user profiles you would need to copy the
standard items into EACH profile, so you would need to know what they were
OR you could add an attrib -s -h -r and a deltree /y on the profiles and
set everything back to a single one.
