Reinstalling 98SE will not wipe out anything, it's just a pain in the neck,
and you'll have to reinstall Win98 updates, patches, etc. But other than a
time-consuming, huge pain, I've never lost any data with 98SE or XP
reinstalls.
(However, that's usually what tech support people say when they don't want
to fool with it. Maybe if you shared with the list more details of the
printer problems, some of the more talented folks will help, as they've
helped me so many times.)
