Subject: [PCSOFT] Music Downloading
Looking for a program that downloads music (preferably free). Something I
wouldn't get busted using. Also something without a backdoor that someone
can get into.
Thanks
$$$
Good Morning Linda,
Reading your post leaves me wondering a bit. Are looking for a free
application that downloads music legally (i.e., you usually must purchase
the music downloads) or are you looking for an P2P (Peer-to-Peer)
application that can download music without any cost whatsoever (music
available in this manner is usually copyrighted, licensed and illegal to
share in a P2P application, even though millions of people do it).
If the former, you can download iTunes from Apple or FileHippo without
charge and then pay a nominal fee for each song you download. You can also
download music legallly from sources other than Apple's iTunes such as
Wal-Mart.com's Music Download website for just $.088 per song. Both iTunes
and Wal-Mart Music are easy to use: Wal-Mart's site especially so and I
personally have used it many times.
Apple iTunes:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/
FileHippo (iTunes versions 4.8 thru 7.3):

Wal-Mart Music Home:

On the other hand, if you're looking for a P2P application that enables you
to share files with other P2P users, I'd recommend using LimeWire because it
has a large user base (i.e. membership) and the program is well-developed,
stable and free (though the developers would prefer you to purchase LimeWire
Pro to help defray development costs and give them a living).
Installing LimeWire on your PC isn't illegal, in and if itself the program
is benign, but misuse of LimeWire or any file sharing program to circumvent
copyright laws is illegal in most countries including the USA. That said,
let your own conscience and personal standards guide you on how to use this
or similar programs.
LimeWire:

File Hippo (LimeWire versions 4.08.01 thru 4.12.15):

Other list members can surely conrtribute much more information on the topic
than I've offered in my brief narrative, but this should be enough solid
material to get you started and pointed in the right direction. I am,
Very truly yours,
Jeffrey Ottie
