Hi Ron,
You cannot run the Win98 files or games off the external drive,(unless this drive is
bootable and setup for dual booting) but there are other options:
Use Compatibility Mode
Run Older Programs on Windows XP (Microsoft)
http://tinyurl.com/2857h
(Run the installer under Compatibility Mode and afterwards you may have to run the
program's exe also in that mode)
Getting native Windows 95/98 games to run in Win XP

You will have more luck if your drive is formatted with FAT32 rather than NTFS.
Use a virtual PC like Microsoft's VPC http://tinyurl.com/2jzn55
or VMWare http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
Dual boot Win98 and WinXP http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/dualboot.htm
There are many more articles about dual booting 98 and XP -the above is just one of them.
Hope this helps.

Subject: [PCSOFT] using an external HD with WIN98 on an XP desktop
I have an external enclosure mounted HD which has WIN98 installed on it, and
can connect it to my desktop with WIN XP installed via a USB cable. It
appears as drive F.
Is it possible to use this arrangement to play a game which will operate on
WIN 98 but not on a more advanced OS?
Ron
