I'm working on a Win98 pc infected with what I believe to be a virus. I first removed the drive and connected it via USB/IDE adapter to a PC with WinXP running latest updates for Norton's and found and purged one virus.
Putting it back in the original machine, I am still unable to start either msconfig or regedit, which means I still have a virus, right?
I don't want to install a new anti-virus program on the 98 machine until I'm certain there are no infections, but how much more certain can one be than to have scanned the drive, removed from the computer?
thanks for your consideration...

p.s. regedit and msconfig actually startup for a fraction of a second and then close.
