I understand your frustration - I too ran into the Access problem. The file
size became much larger after conversion AND my macros did not import
properly. Instead, Access reported my database as being corrupt! I finally
worked around this by manually copying and pasting the macros into the new
database. Admittedly, I have not run into any more problems like this after
installing the latest patches to Office XP (SP2).
Back to your question. It is possible to have different versions of Office
installed. Just make sure that you select a new location for the second
version. You may still run into a few problems due to the shared (common)
files area. We had problems at my college when a newer version of FrontPage
was installed and it corrupted the older Office installation. Perhaps it
would be best to install the XP version first and then install the 97
version. If you don't need it, you might omit the XP version of Access
during your install.
Good luck.

Is it okay to have both Office 97 (Prof.) and Office XP (Prof.) on the same
hard drive and computer? Has anyone done this and ran into conflicts?
Because it seems that Office XP wants to convert my Access files and make
them non-backwards compatible. I'm not to thrilled about that, sooooo . . .
