Ronald,

I would think that the first thing you want to verify is what is actually in your start menu
folder. If they are only shortcuts, then you can safely delete them without losing your programs.
However, even if they are program files, they should not be starting just because they're in your
start menu folder. They would have to be in your startup folder to auto-run. While you are in your
start menu folder, browse to your startup folder - again, verify what is in there, and delete any
shortcuts to programs that you don't want loading on startup. If indeed all of your program files
have be moved to either the start menu folder or startup folder, then you can try moving them back
to your "Program Files" folder, but it would seem to me that you may end up with a very confused
registry. I don't know what I would do in your predicament - perhaps a more knowledgeable list
member will offer better advice. Best of luck...

Al Thompson

Subject: [PCSOFT] Suddenly slow boot on Win98SE

> My Win98SE machine works fine for months and months. Suddenly, it boots very slowly, and programs
run very slowly, if I can get them to come up at all. I do a ctrl+alt+del to see the little menu,
and there's about ten lines of unfamiliar "stuff." I start doing "End Task" on items one-by-one
(except Explorer and Systray), and things speed way up. I look under my taskbar startup programs
and it looks like ALL my programs have gotten moved under my start menu! What next, without
accidentally erasing the programs for good?
