<<<<I recall that some problems such as an embedded redirection can't, though, be fixed by software and may require a manual clean-up of the registry>>>.

Hi,

YES this is true.

<<<< Any suggestions on manually cleansing one's registry and what I should look for ? >>>>

the problem here is to identify correctly the rogue entry in your registry which for people at least like me is next to impossible. so the solution is to go to security experts forums. the following URL has an excellent article covering all aspects of browser hijacking including suggested fixes.

 http://tinyurl.com/ytppf

basically you need to download a program " hijackthis" install it/run it/create the log file (very very long log indeed)/save it/ post it to one of the many security forums/ and be guided by the experts.

the above mentioned URL does contain ref. to one such forum.

http://www.castlecops.com is another good forum for such problem.

http://tinyurl.com/fc23p is also an excellent one

the bottom line is one's patience.

HTH and good luck.---Venkat

ps: you can also start using a new web browser like " firefox" and keep your fingers crossed that it will not go astray! and save all the problems unless you enjoy such problems like I do
