Thank you very much to everybody who answered.
In fact, it was RealJukeBox which configured itself as the default player
(even though I *know* I unchecked this box!) and since I uninstalled it
afterwards, the file association wasn't working anymore.
I didn't have to re-install Deluxe CD Player. I only reassigned the
"AudioCD" file type to the Deluxe CD Player executable, which was still
sitting in the appropriate folder.
