Mark and John,
I have been using MSN for about 2 years now and you actually do not need to
use the MSN software at all. When creating a DUN connection in Windows the
username should be MSN/username and the password would be the normal
password that you would use.
Also, you can use any of the local points of presence and make a local call
without any associated surcharges. At http://memberservices.msn.com you can
find info on access number and how to configure your email and newsgroup
accounts. It may be a requirement, however, that when using that site that
you are using Internet Explorer. I'm not sure on this one though.
I have even used my MSN account to configure a Linux-based NAT server in my
house.
That being said, MSN is normally up and working. I have trouble with
newgroups occasionally but I don't use their newsgroups that often anyway. I
hate the MSN software and MSN Explorer software with a passion :-).
Hope that helps.
