I ran into the same thing. The problem seems to occur when the virus
definition file is older than a set limit, but no newer file is yet
available. What happens is that during the upgrade, you get a message saying
that your files are current but the trigger for warning is still there. The
problem will go away when a new definition file is actually available.
Usually they come out about once a month or so. You might try deleting the
current virus definition file (virscan.dat) and start the upgrade process.
Before deleting the file, I would back it up though, in case this does not
work.
