Donna, you didn't say which version of Outlook Express you're referring to.
According to this site, OE5 doesn't have the SlideShow enabled as default.
However, there's information here to enable you to change this:

I recently installed the Microsoft VM Security Upgrade (810030) and now I
can no longer use the Outlook Express Picture Slide-Show feature. I loved
having the pics already opened (I could look at 10-12 pics in mere seconds)
but now have to open each one individually through my Adobe PhotoDeluxe
program, which takes forever. I hate it...and wish I'd never installed it!!!
I can't find any information on how to uninstall it...or how to over ride it
on OE.  Any help would be appreciated!!
